Q: Once I have joined the Ramblers, do I need to use Meet-up?
A: We encourage all members to use Meet-up to book on a walk, you can see who is on the walk, message for lifts and it helps the walk leader know names & numbers. If you can’t attend the walk or get a better offer, please Edit RSVP on Meet-up, this automatically informs the walk leader and frees up a place for someone on the waiting list.
Q: How do I find the start of a walk
A: The walk leader will have given an accurate description of the start point in the walk details and will have also dropped a pin at the exact location. It’s best to navigate to this pin via your phone by loading the Meet-up app to your phone. This is more accurate than using a postcode which, in the countryside covers a wide area. Always check your route the day before so there are no surprises.
Q: Will the group wait for me if I’m running late?
A: No – the walk is planned to leave at the time stated. Please aim to arrive 15-20 minutes before that time to allow time for traffic delays, parking, booting up etc so that the walk can start on time, and you are present for the walk briefing. Please don’t ask or expect a walk leader to wait for you if you are running late.
Q: Are all the walks on Meet-up?
A: Of the 113 walks last year only 2 were not on Meet-up. This is usually because we may have a new walk leader, and they want a limited number. Walks not on Meet-up will be highlighted in the newsletter
Q: Why do I see ‘coming as a Rambler’ on the Meet-up comments section
A: All those on the ‘Going’ list will be attending. If the walk has reached 30 you will be placed temporarily on the ‘Waitlist’. Don’t worry as the’ Waitlist’ automatically moves you to the ‘Going’ list as people edit their RVSP
As a Ramblers member you can still attend even if you remain on the waitlist. This ‘coming as a Rambler’ comment should only be added by Ramblers members if they are still on the waitlist on the day of the walk. It informs the leader who on the waitlist will be attending.
Q: Where will I find a full list of upcoming walks
A: All walks are posted on the Ramblers website and our group website when confirmed, this can be before they get posted on Meet-up

Walks are typically posted on Meet-up a month before they occur.

Q: Can I walk with other Ramblers groups
A: Yes, as a Ramblers member you are free to join other local and national Ramblers. It is good practice to message the walk leader to tell them you are coming. You will find all walks on the Ramblers website and the Ramblers App together with the walk leader contact details.
Q. What’s the group policy on dogs
A: Subject to the Walk Leaders approval, we do allow well behaved dogs under full control of their owner. Owners are to place dogs on lead when livestock present or when the walk leader requests it, and be able, when necessary, to lift the dog over stiles/gates etc. Please make sure that that your dog is always with you and that it is not running free away from you elsewhere in the group. Dogs remain the responsibility of the owner. If you wish to bring your dog on the walk, please check with the walk leader. Occasionally a walk leader will deem a walk not suitable for dogs.
